Many people carry
pain that they attribute to their experience with an individual
or group representing a particular religious tradition. These
"wounds" can have wide-ranging effects upon basic psychological
issues such as self-worth, confidence, purpose, meaning, hope,
and trust. Often the guilt, shame, and anger that accompany such
experiences make it difficult to seek the help and support that
is needed. In this course, we will explore the nature of religious
"wounds," the implications of religious addiction, methods
for helping individuals heal, and the development of an authentic
spirituality.
Topics addressed
include:
- the nature of religious
"wounds"
- implicit images of
God
- implications of religious
addiction
- transference and countertransference
issues
- developing an authentic
spirituality
- learning to let go
of suffering
- transforming perceptions
of spirituality
- bringing awareness
to our own experiences with religion
